1. Limit on Hens: Residents may keep up to 5 hens for non-commercial purposes. Roosters are prohibited to minimize noise concerns.
2. Containment: Hens must be kept in a secure, predator-proof coop to ensure the chickens' safety and prevent escapes. Chickens must be securely contained within appropriate fencing or wire whenever they are outside the coop.
A. Space Requirements:
- Coop Size: Each hen needs at least 3-4 square feet of indoor coop space, meaning a coop for 5 hens should be a minimum of 15-20 square feet.
B. Ventilation:
- The coop must have adequate ventilation, such as screened windows or vents, to allow fresh air while preventing drafts.
C. Aesthetics
-Coops, like sheds, must be located in the rear of the property. They should be constructed in a sturdy manor using materials that match the look and feel of the residence and surrounding neighborhood, and kept in good repair.
D. Setback Requirements:
-Coops must be located at least 10 feet from any property line and 25 feet from the nearest neighboring residence.
3. Waste Management: Chicken waste must be properly composted or disposed of to mitigate odors and maintain sanitation.
4. Health and Safety: Regular veterinary care is required, and coop maintenance must be conducted routinely to prevent disease and ensure cleanliness.
5. Preventing Wandering Chickens: Chickens must be confined to the owner’s property at all times. We have already partnered with local Farms that are available to take in unwanted or wandering chickens, so they will not burden animal control.
- Zoning and Permits: We do not propose any zoning restrictions or permits/licensing.
